Left with no option
The concept of converting the Lorraine Motel into a Civil Rights Museum began in 1986. The local inhabitants raised strong feelings of opposition. It is important to understand that everyone involved in the protest agrees that there should be a Museum, but that its location was inappropriate.
It became immediately obvious that the need to build a Civil Rights Museum in Memphis would take place, whatever the cost - even at the expense of displacing the homeless. Jacqueline was left with no option but to leave the Lorraine. However, her determination to continue the teachings of Dr. King were so strong, there was only one viable option left open to her.
This was to remain true to her principles and protest in a non-violent manner.
